Active Matter is a live-service PvPvE extraction shooter from Matter Team, published by Gaijin Network Ltd. Version 1.0 launched on 15 September 2026 on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S after an Early Version on the Gaijin Store on 9 September 2025. You play an Agency operative stuck in a time loop: load into quantum-unstable fragments of Eastern Europe, Central Africa, and a U.S. coastal city, harvest Active Matter, and extract before the zone dies. Rival operatives are the deadliest threat in that loop. If you have not extracted yet, open the first raid briefing and treat the safe container as the only loot that survives a death.
Blue-hour roadside with abandoned cars and a compact optic — the kind of Eastern European fragment you drop into on a live raid.
AmberExposure or pending collapse
Isolated raid / first extract
Exposure or pending collapse: extract with something in a safe container before the fragment dies.
The public Steam trophy A 20-minute adventure unlocks on a successful first extract. The official FAQ lets you pick Isolated or PvE queues if you want fewer rival operatives on that first loop.
RedLoss risk
Raid death
Loss risk: weapons and equipment that are not in a safe container and not personal disappear when you die.
Steam edition copy and the official FAQ both state that death in a raid strips unsecured guns. Personal items and the safe-container stash are the two exceptions.
BlueConfirmed shelter
Shelter / Agency base
Confirmed shelter: activate the base outside ordinary reality before you keep stacking loadouts.
Welcome to the Agency unlocks when you activate the shelter. The replicator and refiner sit there, and Credits plus Prime are spent from that same hub.

How a live raid actually ends
A raid is not a campaign mission you replay for a star rating. You accept contracts, fight a shrinking quantum-unstable zone, and leave with whatever you can carry. Active Matter itself is harvested by killing AM-transformed creatures, taking it from other players, or picking it from clusters. The loop resets you to the same Agency point after death, so the run is the stash, not the story cutscene.
You can go in solo or with a small squad — Early Version copy capped squads at three, and the FAQ still talks in those terms. Some locations are PvE-only, some PvPvE-only, some PvP-only. Isolated queues exist if you want the map without as many rival operatives. None of those modes change the extract rule: if the fragment collapses while you are still inside, the unsecured kit is gone.
Prime beacons buy a second chance after a wipe. Credits from contracts and processed loot fund the next kit. Neither currency is a rank list. They are the two numbers you actually spend between raids, and they sit next to Harmonization, Merits, and Monolith access on the progression page.

Three biomes, named raids, no fake map
Launch biomes split across Soviet restricted-island laboratories on Dalniy Island, a Central Africa quarantine zone, and an abandoned U.S. coastal city. Official news and Steam patches then name the raids you actually queue: Dam, Dogorsk, Park, Downtown / 250 Shades of Liberty, Gigastructure, overtime rooms such as Factory: Bloodbath and Headquarters: Code 2901, plus Nexus maps Vanilla Mall and Aztec temples.
The raids board is a filterable table of those named zones with biome, kind, and mode fields. Use it when you need to pick Isolated overtime versus a Nexus fight, then read the extraction page for contracts, shrinking zones, and safe containers.
Gaijin shelves the title next to War Thunder, Enlisted, and Crossout. Those are separate live-service shooters from the same publisher. They do not share this raid table, this shelter, or this extract rule.
Fire Walk is the update that put Dam and contested Dogorsk on the island. Gigastructure added Park and the maze. 250 Shades of Liberty is the city drop. The board’s kind field is how you keep those launches from blurring into one nameless “map list.”
What you keep when the loop snaps
Edition packs name concrete guns. Standard starts you with sets that include the SOK-94 Vepr, MB590, MP5, M9, and a combat knife. Advanced and Deluxe add SV-98, M4A1, PKM, M110A1, SCAR-L, and recipes for the Harpy scout drone and Bonecrusher quad. Fire Walk and Gigastructure later added Origin-12, AN-94, RPG-7, and the gravity gun. Those names belong on the arsenal page, not in a made-up S-through-C tier.
Armor plates were reworked in Fire Walk: titan plates are the most durable and expensive, initially absorbing slightly less than ceramic. Chronogenes slot into a Body Sleeve. None of that matters if you die with the gun on your back instead of in a safe container.
Nexus is the exception to the extract loop. Dedicated PvP over a passive Active Matter source issues Agency gear that you keep. Hired Ops is a separate match type with beacon captures and combat-master tasks. If you want that mode, skip the shrinking zone and open the Nexus page.
Official Steam still used here as raid photography, not as a decorative splash.
